Visiting the Turkish Café in Stellenbosch was because of a Turkish voucher that the wife bought to taste and pair different Turkish delights with some coffee. Ok, I humoured the wife and went along. Boy, was I surprised, I enjoyed myself.
On our arrival, there were some other people before us, so we had a short wait, about 2 minutes to be seated. The shop was full of anything you would and could think of as should be in an eastern café lots of mysterious spy novels came to mind, and my imagination was running wild!
We ordered a Cigar Pie, which is a pastry roll filled with cheese.
We also ordered the Simit Combo 2, which consist of a Simit sandwich (bagel)
with cheese and tomato served with Turkish Tea!
Our coffee was served, and the Turkish delight put in a large copper dish, and the different Turkish sweets held in small like packets.
We got some thin wooden skewers to get our Turkish sweets from the large copper dish. When you chew the sweet and still have some of the sweets in your mouth, you take a small sip of coffee with it. One word, bliss
The ambience and thoughtfulness that went into the preparation of the Café to create that specific Turkish feeling were marvellous. The owner, who is a Turkish citizen, exude authenticity to the entire Café — all in all, a memory that I know I will carry for a long time to come.
The Café had all the various Turkish Delight sweets and flavours as well as a diabetic one where there was no sugar used. I bought a box and although a little bit more than usual, it tasted awesome.
Will I recommend this shop to other patrons?

The only real food I could find in London, over five weeks, was Turkish. Need I say it? Lamb chops.
