In November last year, we visited The Farmyard Honey Factory in Wolsely, to be clear, this is not a factory as in a real factory, this is more like a name for the business.
We were lucky that nature was forthcoming and they had enough honey product for all, plus some fine tasters of honey. The Honey Factory is also known for its food and especially samoosas and the curry in a small (three-legged “no 1 potjie”) pot.
The pastry with ice-cream sweet we got served after the main meal was something just out of this world. Yummy!!!
We were also told about when sometimes the bee colonies get wiped out. Then there is a shortage of honey. On a side note, If the honey bee gets extinguished, think of the ramifications of that? No more flowers, no more fruit, vegetables the way we learnt to know and love! Everything would synthetically be made if they can do it.
So, if ever you are on the R46 from Tulbagh to Wolsely, you will find them on the right-hand side of the route.
Best would be to phone to make sure that they are open before going there. Especially, as we do live in trying times #COVID19
I do recommend a visit to The Farmyard Honey Factory, for its food and ice-cream coffee.

Hi Pete, no, I have not been lucky enough to have visited Bergsig as yet, note the “as yet” 🙂 I will get there though. ☺???😇
When the Coronavirus crisis is over, I will definitely make a visit to this place.
It really looks so great. Wolseley was hard-hit by 1969’s quake and the many others up to around 1977. The tenacious community showed resilience and rose from the ashes. I now recalled the name of the other, Die Houtkewer. (The wood beetle.). That and Bergsig Wine Estate are great places to spend one’s time. You just widened perspectives and stirred up foodlust.
I was lucky to have been able to eat at Hout Kewer, I also checked out their woodworking factory adjacent to houtkewer, and they still use machines that have been there since before the earthquake. You are quite right, they are a hardy bunch.
Great stuff. Have you been to Bergsig Wine Este? It is at the exit from Bain’s Kloof, directly after you cross the Breede.
