On Friday, 10 June 2022, Nuy Winery (since 1963), near Worcester, introduced their new, enlarged wine cellar – the additions can store an extra 3.2 million litres of wine.
“We are grateful that as a cellar and producers, we do not stagnate. With the extra tons of grapes from new plantings and better vineyard and water management applied, the extra storage space was very much needed,” says Christo Pienaar, Cellar Master at Nuy Winery.
The new expansion also improves the quality of the wines because the product can be fermented at a cooler temperature for longer – the colder the wine, the longer the fermentation process, the longer the fermentation process the higher the quality of the product.
NUY GOES GREEN
New green technologies could be implemented during the building process to ensure a smaller carbon footprint.
For example, the solar panels have been doubled, and now the cellar generates much of its own electricity. The new cooling system also uses less electricity.
