Bonnievale has once again been shown to be a champion of Chenin Blanc following the announcement this week of medal winners at the esteemed Veritas Awards. Winning one of only five Gold medals awarded in the varietal category was the River Collection Chenin Blanc 2021.
Accompanying the wine on the winner’s podium was the Bonnievale River Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2021, which also took Gold, and River Collection Chardonnay 2021, silver.
“This is tremendous recognition for Bonnievale, from a competition where we consistently excel. We are especially proud of the performance of the Chenin Blanc,??? says chief winemaker Marthinus Rademeyer. “Not only does the variety thrive in our terroir, but it is also one in which South Africa has shown itself to be a global leader.???
There were 1 285 medal contenders at Veritas this year, of which Chenin Blanc saw 104 entries. Gold medals are awarded to wines scoring between 90 to 92,9 points out of 100 on the international scale.
The 2021 vintage Chenin Blanc produced a wine with floral blooms and crisp fruits in its aroma and flavours. It has a vivid and bright personality that refreshes and holds the palate. It’s undoubtedly the perfect summer wine, pairing well with fish, pork, and chicken dishes.
The Bonnievale River Collection Chenin Blanc 2021 sells for R62/bottle from Bonnievale’s online store at www.bonnievalewines.co.za. It is also available at selected retailers and restaurants countrywide.
